on expansion of the only railway of the country, the Janakpur-Jayanagar
Railway, will likely start from the first week of January 2014.The
railway track expansion works would begin from Inarwa VDC near the
Nepal-India border in Dhanusha district.railwayFilling and bridge
construction works would be carried out in the beginning, it is stated.
Survey for the track expansion works has been carried out twice and
distribution of compensation for land required for the expansion project
has completed 90 per cent in Dhanusha and 60 per cent in Mahottari,
said Tekraj Bohara, Chief of the Janakpur-Jayanagar-Bardibas Broad Gauge
Railway Construction Site Office, Janakpur.Bohara said the works would
start from the first week of January next year if the government extends
cooperation providing concession to the Indian contractor on customs
duty on the import of construction materials. He said a letter has been
sent to the Finance Ministry in this connection.The railway expansion
work is being carried out from Janakpur to Bardibas in Mahottari
district with the assistance of the Government of India. An Indian
construction company has been awarded the contract for the expansion
works and it is required to conclude the project in two years.The
railway expansion project is being carried out as per an agreement
reached between the governments of Nepal and India in February 2010.
