Most of the news stories in Nepali media have male sources, says a study report. A report presented during a programme organized by the Working Women Journalists (WWJ) on ‘women participation in media’ said majority of the news stories had males as news sources and live reporters. Researcher JB Bishwokarma said in the programme that among the total media persons, males used as source for news constituted 95 per cent. The report was prepared after studying the news covered by ten national dailies and five internet-based media outlets over a period of three months. A total of 2,415 news were scanned during the study. On the occasion, General Manager at the National News Agency (RSS), Nirmala Acharya, said not male but female reporters could bring substantive news on women. WWJ Chairperson Subechchha Bindu pointed out the need for reporting and news desks too become gender-friendly. Other speakers at the programme suggested that the study could encompass news contents from radio, television and newspapers for thorough research
