Grieving friends and family of Wagner de Lima Figueiredo, 34, were shocked when his horse, Sereno, lay its head on the coffin, whined and sighed as if it were mourning too.Sereno was taken to the funeral by Wagner’s brother, Wando de Lima, as he knew the pair had a very close relationship. Wagner loved that horse, and so it was important to his family that Sereno was there to say goodbye. The funeral, which took place on 3 January 2016 in Paraiba, north east Brazil, left Sereno heartbroken.
Wagner had died in a motorcycle accident on New Year’s Day after losing control of his bike while riding along a beach front in the city. He was later rushed to hospital before undergoing two critical operations, but he sadly passed due to his injuries.
The semi-professional cowboy performed in rodeo shows for eight years with Sereno, winning dozens of tournaments and prizes, and making the pair close as ever.
Wando said: ‘This horse was everything to Wagner, it was as if the horse knew what was happening and wanted to say goodbye.
